Pokemon Unite is officially available on Nintendo Switch. Trainers can get in on the battle-packed Pokemon MOBA game today. For players looking to get right into the ranked action and see how they stack up against the competition, you’ll need to put in a bit of practice first. Developers TiMi Studio Group and The Pokemon Company included a short tutorial and some prerequisites you’ll need to meet before you can join ranked games. Nothing too intense, but we wanted to put together this guide to explain how it works. Here’s how to unlock ranked matches in Pokemon Unite.
How to unlock Ranked Matches in Pokemon Unite
Ranked Matches in Pokemon Unite unlock at Trainer Level 6, and you will require at least five Unite licenses to participate. You can play regular matches against random people to practice and increase your Trainer Level. Doing this is a great way to familiarize yourself with the game and decide which Pokemon you enjoy using. After about five games, you should reach Trainer Level 6 and have the option to hop into some ranked matches.
Remember, you need five Pokemon unlocked, also called “Unite Licenses,” to participate. The reason is that if your teammates pick all the Pokemon that you have available, you’ll have at least one to select. So, head into the Pokemon menu and unlock some. You will need a varying amount of Aeos gems or Aeos coins to purchase Pokemon, so you likely won’t be able to hop right into a ranked match at Trainer Level 6 unless you spend some cash. Otherwise, it will take you a few hours to accumulate enough coins to obtain a License.
There are three modes in Pokemon Unite. Aside from Practice and Ranked, Quick Battle is another mode, which unlocks at Trainer Level 8.
