The Warzone world is buzzing about with its newest shiny toy: Payload. For the first time in the BR’s history, we have a non-kill-based game mode for players to sink their teeth into. A lot of veteran Warzone players a bit lost with this change of pace, which is why I’m here to tell you exactly what Payload is and how to play it.
Payload is Warzone’s Newest Game mode
Launching after Season 4 Reloaded, Payload is a new game mode to run alongside traditional BR-style matches in Warzone. In it, two teams of 40 players battle over a caravan of vehicles making their way across the map.
One team is charged with protecting the convoy, while the other is tasked with stopping it. This premise should sound familiar. It’s the exact same game mode seen in Overwatch, even sharing names with it. Unlike Overwatch’s version of Payload, though, this is set to be a battle-epic rather than a tactical team-based mode.
Also unlike the Overwatch equivalent, the attacking team (preventing the convoy) has the ability to place obstacles in the way of the caravan as it moves across the map. Combine that with massive 40v40 battles and you have a recipe of carnage. If you want to hold your own, playing the objective is vital.
That’s not to say that you need to throw yourself on the front line, but understand where that line is. The action in any given match is going to be dynamic, full of chokepoints, and undoubtedly a ton of snipers. Adapting on the fly to your current situation is vital to coming out on top.
