Minecraft Axolotl Colors

If you don’t know what an axolotl is, it’s not that surprising. Axolotls are one of those animals that most people don’t really know about unless someone deliberately brings them to their attention. They’re very cute, though, and are quite popular as aquatic pets. Plus, they come in all sorts of vibrant colors! Here are all of the axolotl colors in Minecraft.

Minecraft Axolotl Colors

Axolotls come in five possible colors: 

• Leucistic: A light pink, fleshy color
• Wild: A dark brown, muddy color
• Cyan: A bright white-ish blue color
• Gold: A bright gold and yellow color
• Blue: A soft blue color with orange accents

Leucistic, Wild, Cyan, and Gold are all considered the “common” colorations of axolotl; each color has about a 24.98% chance of spawning. Pure Blue axolotls, on the other hand, are extremely rare, with only about a 0.083% chance of spawning.

Axolotls can’t be tamed (not yet, anyway), but you can corral them and encourage them to breed with one another. They’re not dangerous at all toward you, though they may show hostility toward other sea creatures, but that’s not really your problem.

All you have to do to breed axolotls is to get two of them next to each other and feed both a bucket of tropical fish. That’ll get them “in the mood,” so to speak, and they’ll quickly produce a baby axolotl offspring which will mature into an adult in around 20 minutes time. Breeding won’t affect the probability of their coloration, but you can make a lot at once fairly easily if you don’t mind playing the long game. You can get any wild axolotl to follow you by simply holding a bucket of tropical fish in your hand, and then you can just lead them to an underwater pen, feed them, and hopefully give them some privacy. With any luck, you’ll have a veritable rainbow of the little doodads in no time.
