Okay, real talk: I completely forgot about Diablo Immortal. After that whole “do you guys not have phones” debacle at BlizzCon 2018, I just wrote the whole thing off as a silly misstep. But in spite of the decisively lukewarm reaction to its announcement, Activision Blizzard has been working on Diablo Immortal this entire time. So, when does Diablo Immortal release?
If my own lapse in memory wasn’t a clear indicator, there hasn’t been much information about Diablo Immortal lately. If I were to make an educated guess, they probably wanted to wait until they had some solid footage to show everyone after the major mehs from BlizzCon. There was a technical alpha build late last year that a select few were invited to participate in, but details were kept under strict lock and key.
When does Diablo Immortal Release?
However, whether intentional or otherwise, we got some insight into Diablo Immortal’s progress earlier this week. On Tuesday, Activision Blizzard presented their Q1 financial report for 2021, which happened to include a few juicy tidbits about their current projects.
On the subject of Diablo Immortal, the report said that the game had recently entered its “second phase of testing,” and that they’re planning on rolling it out worldwide sometime in 2021. Now, obviously, “some time in 2021” isn’t exactly a narrow window, but if they only just recently began another round of playtesting, then it probably won’t be for at least a few more months, meaning a late summer, early fall release would probably be the most feasible. Whenever this mysterious date gets closer, Activision Blizzard will probably have more information to divulge. After all, there are still a lot of mysteries about how exactly a mobile Diablo is supposed to handle, and players are gonna need answers to those mysteries if this game has any hope of drumming up the hype.
