How Do You Defeat Commander Niall in Elden Ring?
Defeating Commander Niall in Elden Ring is no easy task, especially since the boss does not fight alone. He will spawn in two knights right away who will attempt to take you out as well, one with a shield and another who is dual wielding swords. This second knight can get some very strong hits on you, and so he should be your first target in the fight to take out. This is because Commander Niall does not have strong attacks until his second phase, which he will only begin if both of the knights that he spawns in at the beginning die.
Use Your Summons to Fight Back
Therefore, use your summons (if you can get them) to distract the knight with the shield and sword, since he is not as much of a threat. Quickly defeat the knight that’s dual wielding, and then continue to DPS Commander Niall with your double swords in battle. He will not be as threatening in his first phase like we have already mentioned, since he only really uses halberd attacks and buffs his knights in this phase. If you modify your invocation enough, it should be able to keep the knight with the shield occupied just long enough for you to defeat Commander Niall, upon which the surviving knight will also disappear.
Take on the Commander’s First Phase
Niall’s first phase attacks are a 1-3 swipe sweep attack, a frost swirl attack, a thrusting swipe and a powerful charged version of the frost swirl attack. Usually, he uses this whirlwind swirl attack when he takes damage from you, so make sure that you’re prepared to dodge away after hitting him if necessary. Commander Niall will stop chasing you to encourage his soldiers in battle against you, meaning there are openings to take advantage of if you need to heal up. Also, since Commander Niall has a prosthetic leg he is slow in his first phase and therefore is not much of a threat in terms of movement speed. It is mainly his damaging whirlwind attack that you’ll need to watch out for at this point.
How to Deal With Niall’s Second Phase
However, when he reaches his second phase (if his last knight is killed) he will become a lot harder to defeat. He charges up his prosthetic leg by imbuing it with lightning, and can now move a whole lot faster than before. You will need to adjust your timing since Commander Niall will suddenly becoming a speedy enemy and can jump up high before using his leg in a physical attack on you. Make sure to dodge his dash as well, which he ends off in the second phase with a spinning kick at its conclusion. Again, be sure to remain wary of his frost swirls, since he will still be fond of using that move in his second phase. Good luck in this boss fight, and stay safe out there adventurer!
