What’s the Best Staff in Elden Ring?

Our picks for the three best staves in Elden Ring.
What's the Best Staff in Elden Ring?

Spellcasting in Elden Ring is divided into two broad categories: Sorceries, cast with Glintstone staves, and Incantations, cast with handheld Sacred Seals. In the former category, the staff that you use affects the potency of sorceries, including how much more damage they deal and how well they scale with your Intelligence stat. There aren’t as many staves in Elden Ring as there are regular weapons, but there are enough that it wouldn’t hurt to know ahead of time what you’re looking for. So, what’s the best staff in Elden Ring?

What’s the Best Staff in Elden Ring?

Out of all of the staves available in Elden Ring, there are three in particular that could be considered the “best,” albeit for different reasons. Those three staves are:

Meteorite Staff

  • Sorcery Scaling: 262
  • Scalings: STR D, INT S
  • Requirements: STR 6, INT 18
  • Passive: Boosts gravity sorcery

The Meteorite Staff is an excellent staff for either early-game magic builds or those who want to spread the skills around a bit while still dealing decent magic damage. The stats required to use it are absolutely paltry, and it’s the only staff in the game that starts with an S rank in INT scaling, so it can work well even with builds that don’t specialize in INT. However, the Meteorite Staff can’t be upgraded at all, so if you are going for pure magic, it’s better used as a crutch until you can get your hands on something stronger.

Azur’s Glintstone Staff

  • Sorcery Scaling: 161 at base, 300 at +10
  • Scalings: STR D and INT B at base, STR C and INT S at +10
  • Requirements: STR 10, INT 52
  • Passive: Reduces casting time, but sorceries consume more FP

Azur’s Glintstone Staff is a staff for people who are really serious about going all-in on magic. A fully-upgraded Azur’s Glintstone Staff has the highest sorcery scaling of any staff in the game, and with the bonus of faster cast times, you can whip out powerful spells one after another to absolutely devastate enemies. Of course, with those faster spells comes increased consumption of FP, so you need to have heavily invested in your Mind stat if you plan on making long-term use of this thing, or otherwise commit to having more Cerulean Flasks on you than Crimson Flasks.

Carian Regal Scepter

  • Sorcery Scaling: 162 at base, 287 at +10
  • Scalings: STR E, DEX E, and INT B at base, STR D, DEX D, and INT S at +10
  • Requirements: STR 8, DEX 10, INT 60
  • Special Skill: Spinning Weapon: spin your weapon in a circle around yourself to repel attacks
  • Passive: Boosts full-moon sorcery

The personal staff of Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon herself, the Carian Regal Scepter is the best all-rounder staff in the game. While it doesn’t pack the raw magical might of Azur’s Glintstone Staff, its higher requirements and scaling, not to mention the normal FP consumption rate, make it plenty strong without the trade-offs. The Carian Regal Scepter is ideal for those who are going full-spec into INT, but don’t want to go scorched Earth on it.
