The fun thing about some of Splatoon 3’s special weapons is how they use the game’s basic mechanics as a base concept, but then twist it into something new and wild. No better way to keep your game fresh than to futz with established expectations, after all, and the Kraken Royale and Super Chump specials are all about that. Here’s how to use the Kraken Royale and Super Chump in Splatoon 3.
How to Use Kraken Royale and Super Chump in Splatoon 3
The Kraken Royale and Super Chump are new special weapons added to Splatoon 3 with the start of the Fresh Season. If you played the original Splatoon on Wii U, the Kraken Royale will look familiar, though it has several key differences from its predecessor. The Super Chump, meanwhile, is an entirely new concept meant to foil surly sorts who camp out at Super Jump signals for an easy splat.

Kraken Royale Functions and Uses
The Kraken Royale is a transformation-type special, kind of like the other extreme of the Zipcaster. When activated, you’ll take a second to transform before becoming a super-sized version of your usual squid or octo form. For the duration of your transformation, you’re completely invulnerable and can move freely along the ground and walls, leaving a large ink trail as you go. While in Kraken form, you can use offensive versions of your usual squid/octo maneuvers. Jump in the air to perform a squid roll, or charge up for a moment to perform a powerful squid surge in the direction you’re facing. Don’t get too spammy with your attacks, though, because your movement will slow when you use them. Try to use Kraken Royale and its attacks right in an enemy’s face.
Super Chump Functions and Uses
The Super Chump is a long-distance launcher-type special, kind of like the Ink Storm. When it’s activated, you’ll pull out a launching device, which you can then deploy at your feet. After a quick warmup, the launcher will fire off a gaggle of decoy balloons, each creating its own Super Jump signal on the spot where they’ll land. After they land, they’ll explode in a burst of ink on contact with an enemy, or on their own after a few seconds. The balloons can be safely destroyed from a distance, but while your opponent mops them up, you can reposition yourself safely. If you’re feeling extra gutsy and have a friend to help you out, you can even set up a Super Jump in the decoys’ midst to really get the drop on ’em.
The Kraken Royale and Super Chump are very much contrasting specials. Use the former for all-out in-your-face offense, and use the latter for a spot of crafty misdirection.
