How the Inventory Works in Sons of the Forest – Guide

Sons of the Forest certainly has a unique way of managing the inventory. In other games, you will be accessing a magical menu that makes inventory management very convenient and quick. In an effort of realism, the developers of Sons of the Forest have opted for more of a physical inventory for players to grapple with. Here’s how the inventory works in Sons of the Forest.

How to Use the Inventory in Sons of the Forest

Instead of a detached screen to display everything you own, Sons of the Forest opts for some sort of mat that players store all of their items in. Upon pressing ‘I’, your character will spread out this mat, a couple of briefcases, and spread out every item you own. As you collect new items or more than one of an item, they will appear in certain parts of your inventory and will pile up.

If you want to select a different item in Sons of the Forest, you’ll have to open your inventory and find it in your mess of bits and bobs. Thankfully, nothing overlaps with each other, so you should be able to easily locate what you need. If you’re struggling to locate a certain item, hover your cursor over the briefcases. They’ll open up once your cursor is near, revealing their contents. As shown in the picture above, you can fit a lot of items in there, and that isn’t even half of it.

If you are struggling to see something, pan your cursor to the edges of the screen, there may be more items out of sight.

The grey compartment in the middle is reserved for combining items. Hovering your cursor over the lighter grey cogs in the corner will reveal a list of items you can combine and craft right there in your inventory, provided you have the listed materials, of course. To actually combine items, you must right-click the correct ingredients.
