That, and finding some clean water to drink and a cozy and, most importantly, safe place to rest. Firstly, like many other items and resources, you will find some food caches around the shoreline, just near your spawn point. You can also go ahead and venture into the forest and pick up some edible plants, such as berries. Nothing wrong about some natural sources of food, right?
