How to use the Backpack in Sons of the Forest – Guide

It's got your back.

Sons of the Forest is a fantastic and realistic survival game. If you ignore the unholy abominations, that is. There will be a number of tools and items that are imperative to your survival, against the environment and against those foul creatures. One of the most important tools you have isn’t actually a tool, but a backpack. Here’s how to use the backpack in Sons of the Forest.

How to use the backpack in Sons of the Forest

The backpack is an item that is with you when you begin Sons of the Forest. And it’s the least the game could do, considering the infuriatingly realistic inventory management. No longer can you quickly switch between items or weapons when in crisis, as you must roll out your entire inventory. Many players are infuriated with this design choice, but thankfully the backpack provides a quicker alternative.

When you roll out your inventory, you can access your backpack. If you right-click it, you can bring items in and out of the backpack. It acts as a faster way to select certain items of your choice, almost like an item slot selection. When you’ve decided what you want in your backpack, you can close your inventory.

Holding ‘I’, instead of pressing it, will bring up your backpack. You can easily access things that are strapped onto it, such as flares, or your guidebook or an axe. This way, you won’t have to keep opening your entire inventory every time you need something, and can instead just whip out the backpack.

Sure, the backpack isn’t perfect and is still irritating, but it’s a lot better than the alternative. Try to fill your backpack with emergency items and tools for those moments of life and death.
