Octopath Traveler 2 is a highly anticipated sequel to the original Octopath Traveler game. In this new game, players will once again embark on a journey through a vast and beautiful world, filled with danger and adventure. One of the most exciting aspects of the game is the ability to recruit and play as different characters, each with their unique abilities and storylines.
The good news is that there is no wrong way to go about recruiting the other characters in the game, no matter who you pick and in what order, it will work out in the end. Also, there are no prerequisites for recruitment, so you can choose a character in any order you, please.
It’s good to be mindful that the first character you choose will be the one you are with until you complete their specific story but even if you don’t like their class/build you will quickly gain party members that will alleviate any holes you may have.

How To Recruit Every Character
Starting the farthest that you can to the East is going to be your best bet to have what could be referred to as “the best party” in the game.
How to Get Osvald
We highly recommend starting with Osvald due to him having access to every element of magic in the game. Fire, Lightning, and Ice specifically are very good magic to have because they’re going to be a very popular weakness that you encounter early.
Not only that, Osvald has the Analyze ability which will allow him to identify weaknesses in battle. The more that an enemy is encountered, the more weaknesses he will reveal.
How to Get Temenos
After you have access to travel around Solistia we recommend heading southeast to get Temenos in Flamechurch. He is a healer with an AOE heal that comes in clutch. On top of this, he has access to the ever-elusive Light magic which will cause extra damage to enemies at nighttime. Temenos also can automatically apply debuffs at the start of every round.
How to Get Throne
Wrapping up the Eastern continent we have Throne, who is a thief sword, dagger and darkness user. She’s going to fill the void with the physical DPS on your roster! Also, she can steal from people as her main Path Action, which means more Leafs.
How to Get Ochette
Now that we have a solid three from the Eastern main continent of Solistia, we want to head south to its peninsula and pick up our last character over here. Ochette can wield axes and bows, but she can also capture monsters which comes in handy.
How to Get Castti
Now we are finally leaving the East and making our way West to Canalbrine to pick up Castti. She is an apothecary who doesn’t do much damage but is great for supporting. Her Path Power helps the party restore SP which will come in handy.
How to Get Hikari
We are in the final three now! Almost done. We are going to pick up Hikari now who will increase our melee damage output by a ton. He can duel other NPC’s which will allow him to learn more techniques for battle.
How to Get Partitio
Next in line is the merchant cowboy Partitio who is pretty useless in combat because all the characters we got first are just that good. But in the over world he can haggle with the shop keeps and get us good prices on Salves.
How to Get Agnea
And we finally arrive to pick up Agnea, she is a support character who can increase damage output to any of her party members. Besides the buffs she can also use Wind magic which is the one element we’ve been missing the whole time!
Thankfully this time around recruiting every main character in Octopath Traveler 2 doesn’t require completing a series of quests and missions that are specific to each character. And instead it’s a more free flowing adventure that allows the player to essentially play how they want. Now don’t let our list convince you that there’s one certain way to pick characters. The best order is going to be whoever you find the coolest!
