All Mutants and Cannibals in Sons of the Forest

The neighbors are awfully rowdy.

The idea of trying to survive in a gigantic forest is already deeply unappealing, so the last thing you want is a bunch of Cannibals and Mutants lurking around, trying to bite your nose off. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what you have to contend with in Sons of the Forest, so you’d better get started learning about your enemies. Here are all the Mutants and Cannibals in Sons of the Forest.

All Mutants and Cannibals in Sons of the Forest

Much like its predecessor, The Forest, Sons of the Forest is absolutely jam-packed with foes who seek to do you harm, usually in the form of devouring you. Give ’em this, they’re committed to a theme. The enemies in this game fall into two broad categories: Cannibals and Mutants.

The Cannibals are humans who have gone kookoo and developed a taste for the flesh of their fellow man. They can team up and use simple tools and weapons, though they’re also easily frightened away. Extended time away from society will do that.

Mutants, on the other hand, are mysterious monsters with shifting, uncertain shapes. Large in size and appetite, these behemoths are best avoided when possible, and fought with all-out offense when not.

There are only a few variants of Cannibal in Sons of the Forest, most of them operating on the same rules and logic. They group up, coordinate, and attack with weapons, though they can also be scared off with shows of force like waving a severed head in their faces.

Here are the few offshoots of Cannibals to watch out for:

  • Regular Cannibals: Basic Cannibals, no unusual characteristics
  • Cave Cannibals: Found exclusively in caves, more physically resilient, but less coordinated
  • Masked Cannibals: Wear gold masks, are physically stronger and more resilient than other Cannibals
  • Muddies: Slow, emaciated Cannibals that crawl around on the ground

The Mutants each have their own means of movement and prey tracking, which means you need to be ready for a different flavor of chase whenever you encounter one of them.

Here’s what to expect from the various Mutants:

  • Fingers: Tall humanoid with a large maw covered in finger-like appendages. Runs right at you and swings its body around to attack.
  • Twins: A pair of humanoids conjoined at the waist. Will crawl on walls and ceilings of caves to get the jump on you.
  • John 2.0: Conjoined humanoids walking around on extended limbs. Uses its lanky form to blend in with trees to take you by surprise.
  • Sluggy: A giant slug-like mass of flesh that crawls along the ground. Slow, yet powerful and resilient.

These various foes will always be on your tail in Sons of the Forest, so be ready to engage them in whatever way the situation calls for. Fight back against Cannibals and run the heck away from Mutants, if you’d like my two cents.
