Destiny 2’s Lightfall plot revolves around Calus’ Shadow Legion and the city of Neomuna on Neptune. At the end of Season 19, we saw Rasputin die. Just before he did, he informed us of a powerful artifact related to the Traveller located on Neptune.

This artifact is known as the Veil, and Rasputin implored us to find it. This is the catalyst that kicks off our trip to Neptune. The Veil, alongside the information on Neomuna we have from Rasputin and Osiris’ visions, has laid the foundation for that new location.

The main villain of Lightfall is going to be Calus and his legion of cloned Cabal known as the Shadow Legion. This culminates a story that started when Calus was first introduced as the first raid boss Destiny 2 ever saw.

Since then, Calus has become a Disciple of the Witness, flying his ship directly into the mass that swallowed up the Destiny 2 launch planets. We don’t know what that entails in terms of his power, but we do know that it’s great enough to pose a serious threat to the safety of Neomuna. Xivu Arath is still hiding in the background here, likely to come to the forefront in The Final Shape.

Beyond Xivu and Calus, there’s also the question of who the Lightfall raid boss is going to be, and how they’ll tie into the wider story.

That’s pretty much everything you need to know about Destiny 2’s Lightfall plot. All that’s left now is to play the story for yourself.
