I do not know about you but Ranked would often have me pulling my hair out from the repetitive nature of its system. With its recent Ranked System changes from Season 15: Eclipse saw the change of how to gain RP to a more aggressive playstyle. This change meant the continuation of highly repetitive plays being executed through every match required you to W-Key every enemy you saw. Apex became the ultimate third-party simulator due to the core way of gaining RP was through KP. Whilst RP increased once you entered top five placement, its flaws lay within the limited fights of playing Zone. However, the arrival of Season 16: Revelry brings forth new changes. These are all the new Map changes for Ranked in Season 16.
New Map Rotation in Ranked
For the first time in Apex Legends, Ranked has a Map rotation. There are now three Maps to play on as you play through Split 1 of Revelry. Unlike previous Seasons of Ranked where players would be limited to play through every game on the same Map for both Splits, this has now been permanently changed. It is now similar to that of playing Pubs, where players would have the ability to play a different Map every hour. However, for the new Ranked System, players would be able to play on the three Maps in rotation every 24 hours.
The three Maps in rotation are Worlds Edge, Storm Point and Broken Moon. It is a shame that Olympus is not available for Ranked as it was meant to be the Ranked Map for Season 15 but experienced a lot of crashing issues, making it unplayable for the playerbase. However, Season 16 Revelry brings forth natural change and gameplay differences through implementing a Map rotation for Ranked. This will keep Ranked fresh and interesting as the Season goes on. Before Season 16, Ranked was highly repetitive and could really only be played one way as the Map’s level design would ask for this playstyle. However, with a Map rotation, players can alter their playstyle as each Map requires something different.
Third partying will remain prevalent throughout the Season, as is a main part of Apex Legends at this point. However, each Map promotes different playstyles. Such as Storm Point being a more Sniper-focussed Map, with many long-range pop shots at enemies with a Charge Rifle. Or Worlds Edge more strategic plays by utilizing the various height advantages in the game and knowing when to pick fights. To finally the latest Map of Apex Legends, Broken Moon which invites fast moving gameplay or regular Map rotation through the use of ziplines.
The Return of the Mirage Party Boat
The Mirage Party Boat is back in Apex Legends and will remain in the Ranked System until the Season has ended. Its return brings back an arena style small location on the Map with decent loot and a natural height advantage against players in the nearby enemy. Its music that blasts from the Boat can be distracting, alongside the Mirage clones distorting the scan visuals. However, with not many Mirage players within Ranked, you should not have to worry about being bamboozled by the dancing clones inside the Boat. The Party Boat is a stand-out location which appears periodically across the Seasons. As it is Apex Legend’s 4 year anniversary, it makes perfect sense for the Party Boat to return for this is a celebration.
Not only is the Party Boat back but, we have a new visual to take in between fights on Ranked. These are the giant balloons of the Legends floating in the skies above every Map. You will see these across every Map, showing the Legends in the form of a parade. At the beginning of Round 1 jets will fly over the screen. These are all in place for the celebratory event of Apex Legend’s anniversary. These will be here for the Anniversary Event, once over, the Ranked System will return to normal.
