Avalanche Software’s newest game, Hogwarts Legacy, is quickly becoming the most anticipated release of 2023. Taking place in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world but set in the 1800s, this universe is able to give fans a new look at the Harry Potter universe. However, it does not have to deal with continuity or any plot issues from the novels and movies. This fresh take on the Wizarding World is sure to give all players a new experience, and perhaps add on to the existing Harry Potter world.

One thing that fans are concerned with is how the world will have changed over the decades. Since Harry Potter’s adventures take place in the modern era, some things around in his time may not exist yet in Hogwarts Legacy. This includes things like certain shops, buildings, technologies, and other prominent parts of the series. In this article, we will look at one of the fan-favorite locations that may not be returning – the terrifying Whomping Willow.

Why Isn’t the Whomping Willow in Hogwarts Legacy?

Unfortunately, the Whomping Willow just isn’t returning for this game. Due to the fact that the game takes place years before Harry and everyone he knows were born, the Whomping Willow cannot exist yet.

Fans of the Harry Potter universe will know that it was actually Harry’s father and his friends who installed the Willow on Hogwarts grounds, alongside help from teachers. Therefore, since this was before their time it simply does not make sense for the tree to be in the game. Although this is too bad, there are many new things in the game for fans to be excited for as well!
