Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – How to Throw While Crouching

Mastering two things at once!

The open world of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been something fans have wanted for years. Pokemon Legends Arceus gave us a good first taste of running around and catching mons. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have continued this experience just as in-depth. This also means there could be some simpler but useful mechanics you may miss. You have to take the time to explore both the world and your gameplay system to really get everything out of a game this large. One of the more overlooked and helpful features is throwing your Pokeball while crouching. Here’s how to throw while crouching in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Throwing while Crouching

Startling Pokemon and catching them off gaud is actually a very great way to capture them easier. This feature is most helpful when you’re trying to sneak up and have an easier time trying to catch more rare and powerful pokemon. First, you’ll want to sneak up on them.

Press the B Button to crouch and slowly get as close as you want without the pokemon noticing. Be aware of the ‘?’ and ‘!’ icons above their heads to know just how close you are for them to possibly discover you. Once you’re close enough press the ZL trigger button to start the lock-on feature. Once you’ve selected the Pokemon you want to battle, hit the ZR button and it will throw the first pokemon in your party at them.

This will possibly even startle the pokemon for you to get a jump on them early and attack twice before they can react. Also, try throwing a quick ball at them and hope their defenses are down enough for you to get them in one shot. Remember sneaking up on Pokemon and starling them also increases your ball catch rate chances.
