Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you’re well aware that Warzone 2.0 has finally been released, drawing player anticipation for the last few months. And while a new, refined version of Warzone may be a good thing for some, others may still want to enjoy what the original Warzone has to offer.
I mean, we all did spend the better part of 3 years unlocking and purchasing in-game items for it. Right? So why not keep playing, or at the very least, drop in every once in a while? But if you went to play Warzone today and had an issue getting it running, you may be wondering if the game has been shut down altogether. You may have also heard about something called Warzone Caldera. But what even is that? Well, we’ve got the answers and can explain what Warzone Caldera is and how it actually works. Let’s just dive right into this!
What is Warzone Caldera and How Does it Work? Explained
First of all, you aren’t just seeing things. Warzone is currently on a short hiatus with the launch of Warzone 2.0. And with Thanksgiving following the game’s release within just about a week, Activision and Co. are taking a holiday break, but luckily, they’ve assured us that Warzone will be coming back on November 28th. However, when it returns it’ll be under a new name, Warzone Caldera.

Warzone Caldera will be a continuation of the old-school Warzone we’ve all loved over the last few years and will be entirely separate from Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2. Warzone Caldera, Vanguard, Black Ops Cold War, and Modern Warfare will continue to coexist with each other, with progression, inventories, and the like all being fluid with one another, as it’s been since 2020.
The unfortunate side of this is that Warzone’s in-game store is effectively being shut down. Along with that sad news is the fact that players will only be able to enter in standard Battle Royale modes, solely on Caldera, with Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep being removed entirely. Now that’s a bummer.
Well, now you know all there is to know about Warzone Caldera. Though it’s a shame that the Warzone experience there is being stripped down, the fact that players can continue playing the first Warzone at all is something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
