How to Save Your Dad in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist

Seeing I Was a Teenage Exocolonist's player character's dad go too soon is one of my heartbreaks when playing the game.

We are on a mission to lay out how exactly you can save those who can be rescued in your colony in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist. Unfortunately, the very personal loss of both mum and dad will affect your player character, at least in their first lifetime, but that does not mean that you can’t change their fates.

Saving dad is a lot more straightforward than saving mum that requires much fewer steps. To prevent his untimely passing due to the colony not having the cure to prevent the Shimmer from shutting down his body, you just have to find a specific item and bring it back to Tangent once the event is triggered. Here is a rundown of exactly what you need to look out for and how to do it.

How to save dad in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist

  • To trigger this event, bond with Tangent enough to see conversations/events relating to finding the cure to Shimmer. This can be done by spending your time mostly within Engineering since she is found there all the time during her early years especially. Get the ball rolling as early as possible to ensure that you get the cure well ahead of his eventual passing.
  • Unlock forage in the valley, which is done early on and automatically once you hit the age of 14.
  • DURING pollen season go out and explore the valley by selecting this unlocked option.
  • Exhaust all points of interest within the area or locate a particularly miscolored spot of land that should result in the player character obtaining the all-important spore samples. If this happens to somehow not appear on a trip or that you have stressed your player character out too much that they have to return home, simply go back to the area the next time you can and retry once more. All interactive points across the land would have refreshed.
  • Once obtaining just one piece of the spore sample, select your activities within Engineering until an event triggers where the spore samples you have selected is handed over to Tangent that will cure dad.

If you have followed the steps correctly then congratulations, dad has been cured and your whole family is now hopefully set up and well prepared to see the colony thrive as your parents are now able to watch you reach adulthood. There’s a lot of loss and heartache to experience with the game so steering everyone into a healthier and longer-lasting life is one of the greatest merits and joys in paying attention to the game’s events and trying your best for the sake of everyone involved.
