How to Save Socks in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist

There's a lot of saving to do in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist involves a lot of people rescuing, plus the saving of an adorable pet character. Socks can be first met as a baby who is approached and befriended by Cal who secretly keeps him as his pet. The obtaining, saving, and benefiting of Socks can all be tricky business, so here’s a rundown of why and how you can approach the alien creature to give him a happy and healthy life whilst benefiting from him for the colony’s sake.

Meeting Socks sets in motion certain side events that can even add to your Colony defense number, plus more sprites and illustrations like the one above to unlock. To say there is reason enough to bond with the friendly and adorable creature is an understatement, so here’s how you can help Socks when the time calls for it.

How to Obtain Socks

Socks is Cal’s pet and is a creature you can meet when building up bond points with Cal. Socks can be found and secretly adopted by Cal during events within the Geoponics sector and during conversations with Cal when he has something to say when maneuvering around the colony.

It will be obvious when this event is triggered because you will stumble on Cal tending to the little critter in secret at some point during the adolescent stage, around the ages of 14 to 16. For the sake of how we obtained this event that may require more specific details to trigger, ensure to have at least one pet with you at the time and select the job role “Tend to animals”. Once seeing enough events play out in either or both encounters, Cal will mention needing a specific food resource for Socks.

How to save Socks and why it is beneficial

An event will eventually occur where Cal tasks the player character to discover what Socks can and should eat when seeing enough events of the two bonding as Cal learns how to raise the alien creature.

Once tasked, head to either activity within the Expeditions zone of foraging in the valley or exploring nearby and explore the terrain until you come across a certain creature that will have two defining characteristics – its long body length and, upon selecting to interact with it, its description has it involving rocks. Select it to explore the outcome of unlocking what food resource Socks needs then head back to the colony and report to Cal to ensure that his beloved pet sees a proper lifespan for his species.

Once more, whilst it’s always nice to have a cute pet around, Socks also provides an additional colony defense increase by spending time with him. Before the next attack happens during the Glow season after Socks is introduced, ensure to increase your animal stat by spending time in the Geoponics sector and train Socks up to have him aid the colony. This can and is a factor in getting better endings when your colony’s defenses are as high as possible before the final encounter happens.
