Shadow Priest is a great choice for anyone who likes or needs a self-sustaining damage dealer. This specialization offers strong single-target damage, although it can hurt groups of enemies as well, self-healing and powerful damage buffs for allies. Let’s dig into the details.

Shadow Priest Facts You Should Know

Shadow Priest’s main weapon is DoT (Damage over Time). When you use this specialization your main worry is to keep the DoT effects running on the enemy, and dash out occasional nuke spells when you have the cooldowns. The DoT damage Shadow Priest uses is often an AoE (area of effect) and can affect enemies that are near your main target. Shadow Priest is an insanely good choice for DPS in your party and can do wonders in PVP combats with its strong survivability skills to watch its back.

When it comes to race, most players opt out for Blood Elf, Human, or Undead, but you don’t have to worry much about that. Shadow Priest can be played with any race in both Horde and Alliance.

Shadow Priest Easy Spell Guide

The most important thing you should know is that with Shadow Priest everything revolves around Insanity, which is a resource that powers some of its spells. We recommend spending Insanity on the Devouring Plague spell that damages the enemy, adds damage over time, and even offers spell lifesteal. Replenish the precious Insanity with spells such as Mind Flay, Vampiric Touch, Void Bolt, and Mind Blast. These spells damage and disable your opponents while preparing you for those stronger nukes. Some other great Insanity spenders you should utilize are intertwined spells Void Eruption and Voidform.

The basic spell guide goes something like this:

  1. Constantly apply DoT to the enemy.
  2. Cast Mind Blast, then Void Eruption (that activates Voidform).
  3. While waiting for Insanity and cooldowns to come back up use Mind Flay.
  4. Every time you have 50 Insanity blast enemies with Devouring Plague.

When it comes to stats, you’ll want to make Intellect, Haste, and Mastery your priorities while you are still learning to play with Shadow Priest specialization.
