Will There Be a New Ultra Warp Ride Minigame in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Could the Ultra Warp Ride feature be back?

Since the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon in 2017, players have been wondering if the Ultra Warp Ride minigame will ever reappear in future Pokémon games. Ultra Warp Ride was an imaginative and popular feature in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but despite its popularity, no Pokémon games have featured it since. Players may see it reappear in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, however!

The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer already has Pokémon fans crawling out of the woodworks to theorize over the new legendaries. Koraidon, the legendary Pokémon of Scarlet, and Miraidon, the legendary Pokémon of Violet, are epic, dragon-like Pokémon with a few oddities added to their anatomy. Keep reading to find out what these oddities are and what they could mean for a new Ultra Warp Ride feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet!

Will There Be a New Ultra Warp Ride Minigame in Scarlet and Violet?

It is extremely likely that Ultra Warp Ride will reappear in Scarlet and Violet. It may not be exactly like the original minigame from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but it could be very similar. And because no other legendary Pokémon have been confirmed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet yet, there is a chance the new games could offer a new version of Ultra Beasts as well.

Based on their designs, Koraidon seems to represent the past, and Miraidon seems to represent the future. This combined with the fact that they are designed after a mode of travel means they could likely be used to travel through time, just like in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Everything to Know About Miraidon

Miraidon has a sleek, futuristic outline, with a metallic color palette. Miraidon, especially, seems to have more of a robotic design. Miraidon appears to have rocket thrusters for legs, pixelated eyes, and a “seat” on his back. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, Miraidon looks as though he was modeled after a futuristic hoverbike.

Everything to Know About Koraidon

If Miraidon was modeled after a futuristic hoverbike, Koraidon must have been modeled after a classic motorcycle. Koraidon, unlike Miraidon, has more of a prehistoric design. Along with his prehistoric, dragon-like features, Koraidon has a spiked wheel on his chest, a “seat” on his back, and horns with a handlebar design.

What Could Their Design Mean for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Although nothing will likely be confirmed until Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s release, it’s obvious that these legendary Pokémon are meant to be ridden.

Pokémon games were first introduced to the market in 1996 and have come a long way since. The same goes for how they’ve designed their in-game travel. In-game travel in Pokémon has evolved through the generations, steadily leaning towards readily ridable Pokémon, rather than player-caught Pokemon that need to be taught HMs or TMs.

If Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are to follow this trend, it is very likely that Koraidon and Miraidon will be readily ridable Pokémon, based on their design. But what could this mean for gameplay in Scarlet and Violet?

The only ridable legendary Pokémon to date were Solgaleo and Lunala, in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. If players managed to beat the game and acquire their legendary Pokémon in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, they could then partake in a minigame called Ultra Warp Ride. Players may be able to do something similar in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with Koraidon and Miraidon.

What is Ultra Warp Ride and How Could It Come Back?

Ultra Warp Ride was a minigame that could be played post-game in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Players could use their legendary Pokémon to travel through Ultra Wormholes to different dimensions in space and time, where they could then catch special Pokémon called Ultra Beasts.

Ultra Beasts were incredibly strong, alien Pokémon that couldn’t be caught anywhere else in the game. No other Pokémon game prior to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon had this feature, so players were pleasantly shocked and excited about this new minigame. However, despite its popularity, no Pokémon games since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have had Ultra Warp Ride. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will likely remedy this, however.

A new Pokémon generation was enough to look forward to this year, but with a new version of Ultra Warp Ride, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can’t come out fast enough!
