Will Atomic Heart be in English? Answered

The art of killer robots transcends language.

As game development becomes a more multinational pursuit, more companies from a wider variety of countries have been releasing their games to the global market. Atomic Heart, for instance, is developed by a Russian team of developers based in Cyprus, and is set in an alternate post-World War II Russia. Considering all the Russian, then, it’s understandable to wonder about the game’s language options. So, will Atomic Heart be in English?

The answer to that question is yes, and very much so. While the game’s primary language setting for both its spoken dialogue and subtitles is Russian, it will also feature an option for a full English voice dub and English subtitles. You can also set the dialogue language and subtitle language independently, so if you want to hear the original Russian dub but don’t speak Russian, you can switch just the subtitles and game text to English.

According to Mundfish’s FAQ in Atomic Heart’s Steam forum, the game is slated to feature full voice dubbing and text options for the following languages:

  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Polish
  • Russian
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Simplified Chinese

In addition to the full voice and text language options, there are also several languages that, while the developers aren’t able to secure voice dubs for, will be implementing text and subtitle translations for. The languages that will only have text localizations include the following:

  • Traditional Chinese
  • Korean
  • Japanese

Some games do sound better in their native languages, so if Atomic Heart’s dub in your native language doesn’t quite hit you right, there will more than likely be a subtitle language you can use while leaving the dialogue in its native Russian.
