Why is Blood white in Cyberpunk 2077? Answered

Its probably just diet blood.

We can all appreciate a good in-depth approach to world-building in a game. No matter how messy a game can be, good lore and attention to aesthetic should always be acknowledged. Speaking of messy, Cyberpunk 2077 might be one of the messier games of the last 5 years both literally and metaphorically. Its been patched up enough though since then. Now we can appreciate its attention to detail. Since those details have been fixed up of course. One of those details people might think is still a glitch from the game not being patched enough is the white blood from some enemies. However, it’s actually a cool choice from CD Project Red and we’re going to tell you all about it. Here’s why the blood is white in Cyberpunk 2077.

Why is the blood white?

As you know doubt can guess, Cyberpunk 2077 is set in the future. The whole cyberpunk aesthetic plays on things like hovercars, an even more digital future, and of course, cybernetics. Depending on how cybernetic someone is can change everything about them, even their insides. You’ve probably figured it out now that the white blood from some people you kill is synthetic blood. There can be red blood as well in the game, it all depends on what kind of enemies you kill.

The lore is simple but quite detailed. You know all about the trauma team and corporations like Aesculapius Incorporated. These companies provide expensive blood substitutes both for the trauma team and for one to buy individually. There’s probably more to it about how it makes an overly augmented body run easier. It also adds to the overly capitalist narrative of the game and its lore about how even something as necessary and minuscule as blood is monetized.

So yes, it is weird and with Cyberpunk’s notoriously rough game launch you can’t blame some people for thinking it was a game error. However, it’s really great attention to the lore of Cyberpunk to show the error is really just a human one.
