Holy V-Tubers, Batman!

Fire Emblem Engage is almost here, and as such, we need to take a look at who our main character is. Who is the Protagonist in Fire Emblem Engage?

Alear is the protagonist in Fire Emblem Engage. As said earlier, their gender is selected by the player, and they have two separate models to reflect that. Their appearance is rather striking — to be frank, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw this character was that they looked like a V-Tuber’s model. This makes a lot of sense when you consider the character design for Engage was done by Mika Pikazo. Pikazo is responsible for the design of V-Tubers Kaguya Luna and Hakos Baelz.

While their default name in the western release is Alear, it is Lueur in the Japanese release. Alear shares a number of similarities with past Fire Emblem heroes. For example: Like with Byleth, their appearance can’t be changed, and they belong to a royal lineage like Corrin. In Engage, Alear starts as a member of the Dragon Child class, which can be promoted to Divine Dragon over time.

Fire Emblem Engage will task you with collecting the twelve Emblem Rings in order to stop Sombron, the Fell Dragon, from awakening. In so doing, these Emblem Rings allow Alear to summon past heroes such as Marth and Celica. Fire Emblem Engage releases on January 20, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch.
