Which LEGO Star Wars Game Is the Best?

Though all LEGO Star Wars games are fantastic, one stands out above the rest.

For some reason, as a Star Wars fan, the LEGO Star Wars games seem to scratch an itch that other games don’t. Each one has its own unique formula and way of telling the stories of the films/TV series that inspired them, with each game feeling wholly unique from one another. The gameplay itself is something that instantly brings me back to that feeling I had as a kid.

Though its platforming is rather simple, the charm and passion within any given LEGO Star Wars title is something that goes missed by other developers outside of TT Games. They have always had a knack for diving deep into the franchises that they recreate with LEGO bricks to an unprecedented degree. Today though, we’re going to go down the list of LEGO Star Wars titles and tell you which one is the best.

As I’ve played all of these games since I was a kid, I’m not going to let nostalgia give me rose-colored lenses when parsing out what title is the best. This is going to be subjective and I’m going to explain how each one does well and how each has the cons that hold it back from the top spot.

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

Coming during the heightened excitement of fans from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars was a welcomed new entry for the series. It offered open area battles, giving players the chance to reenact the ones from the show as well as other key story moments from its stories. Though the battles and focus on the show were great, there just wasn’t enough going for this title when comparing it to the actual film entries.

LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game

I have sunk endless hours into this game and have nothing but adoration for it, but this title isn’t the best by today’s standards. It had set the formula for LEGO games following its lead and that’s what makes it so great. This title is the foundation of LEGO games’ success and to that alone, it’s owed a debt of gratitude. Being able to play out the stories of the prequel trilogy as LEGO Minifigures? That’s a win.

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy

The sequel to the original, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy had a lot to live up to, and wow, did it outdo the first. Not only did this title follow the same formula of playing out its respective trilogy’s films but it also gave players a large hub area to roam as well as the ability to create their own custom Minifigures to play as, complete with whatever Star Warsy combat style they wanted. Though, it’s outdone by another that’ll be making an appearance next.

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

The Complete Saga beats out The Original Trilogy solely in the fact that you not only get all of what made that one so good, but you also have the addition of the prequels. It’s a mash-up of both games that made it feel like a GOTY edition with everything in a one-stop shop. This was my go-to LEGO Star Wars game for years because these stories just don’t get old to play.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens

While the main story only follows the events of The Force Awakens, there’s a ton going for this game. This is the first time that LEGO had introduced its higher fidelity graphics into their Star Wars games series, you can explore all of the various planets from the film in an open-world way, the gameplay had been vastly improved, and there are a ton of DLC packs that include additional story missions. The only place this one fails is in the fact that the other two sequel films are absent.

The Best – LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Buckle up because there is a lot to unpack here. The Skywalker Saga is nothing short of extraordinary. Not just for LEGO Star Wars fans but for the Star Wars fanbase as a whole. This game allows you to visit just about every planet ever shown in a Star Wars film, and even goes further by allowing you to traverse them to an unprecedented degree as they’re all open worlds. Ever wanted to really see what Exegol looked like? This game lets you do that.

Not to mention that even though you may have played the missions of the prequels and sequels in recent games, these are done in a brand new and original way that make them enticing even for returning players. There are also hundreds of characters to unlock and you can even fly around space in the iconic ships from the films as well as land in flagships and the Deathstar. This title wins because it is all Star Wars combined in a package that is almost unbelievable. The detail and what is given to players to explore are ridiculous. My only complaint, you can’t create custom characters.

That’s your answer; LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the best LEGO Star Wars game. Because of how massive this game is, it may never be outdone. Though, only Sith deal in absolutes so I’ll keep my expectations open.
