Where to Find Decorative Frogs in Sons of the Forest

Something to feast your eyes on

With every new update for Sons of the Forest brings more vehicles, new gameplay systems, landmarks and extra lore to keep players invested in life as a lone Island survivor. But there is one particular part of Patch 07 that stands out amongst the pack. Whilst everything adds either new gameplay mechanics, lore and cutscenes to better the story mode experience, something strange lies in wait for your attention. It is the decorative frogs that have absolutely no explanation from Endnight Games for its purpose or use for the trapped survivor on the Island. Curious to locate them? This is Vincent’s guide on where to find decorative frogs in Sons of the Forest.

Decorative Frog Location in Sons of the Forest

With its intriguing title of ‘decorative’, players wondered if frogs could be found, killed and placed as some kind of frog effigy. Although I doubt that this would do anything to terrify the frogs from visiting your base, it would have been a unique choice to implement in the game. Others wondered if you could kill the frogs as a source of nutrients with the thirst and hunger system already in place for Sons of the Forest however, this also does not seem to be the case. Instead, the frogs are there for as Endnight Games suggest – decorative purposes. This means that you can come across these frogs throughout your endeavours as these amphibians add to the life of the Island. In dystopian video games we often will see deer, birds and rabbits to show that mother nature continues. Sometimes you will have nature blend into past civilization, like the giraffe and monkeys in The Last of Us.

But in Sons of the Forest, its habitat is rather quiet. Whilst you will find your fair share of cannibals and mutants, these still represent human civilization that will have spread like a parasite across the Island. Because of this, we need a more accurate representation of life inside an Island and the decorative frogs provide just that. But where can you find these frogs? The main habitat you can find them in are waterfalls and lakes. Although these bodies of water previously ran clear for our protagonist to always get a safe drink, Patch 07 introduces a dirty/clean water system. This, alongside the addition of the frogs, strengthen the believability and likeness of the Island compared to those in real life. Although dirty water is not covered in algae, you will find life inside. With lily pads in place to show players that frogs lie in wait for you to admire.

It is important to note that nothing can be done with the frogs as of Patch 07. They have been added into the game for decorative reasons, breathing life into the wilderness that you have grown accustomed to living in. For those unsure of where to look first for these frogs, you will want to check the river inside the forest that you spawn at, at the beginning of the game (if you crashed inside the forest). It is located directly between the western perimeter of the map (beach) and the central part (mountain).
