If you’ve seen enough sci-fi/horror movies, you know there’s almost always a part where a malevolent AI takes control of a ship. These are tricky situations, as the AI always has almost complete control of everything. This is a situation you encounter again in Live A Live with a deviously simple solution. So, where is the unmonitored terminal in Live A Live?
Where is the Unmonitored Terminal in Live A Live?
In the climax of the Distant Future chapter of Live A Live, Cube, Kato, and Darthe realize that the deaths of their crewmates have been orchestrated by the ship’s AI, OD-10. Cube and Darthe try to break into OD-10’s housing, but the door is shut tight. When you ask Kato what to do, he suggests finding an unmonitored terminal that OD-10 can’t stop you from using to hack into it, but passes out from his injuries before telling you where it is.
So, here’s our conundrum: OD-10’s main room is locked, the interface terminal won’t cut it, and every other point of access on the ship is firmly under OD-10’s control. Where else can you find a terminal with access to the ship’s systems that OD-10 wouldn’t care about? Here’s a hint: you’ve likely already interacted with it at least once near the chapter’s beginning.
Figure it out? Yep, that’s right: it’s the game console that Kirk was playing on in the Recreation Room on Level 2. When you find the game console, you can radio Darthe to patch you into the main system, allowing you to attack OD-10 directly through the medium of the Captain Square game. This is the only combat encounter in the entire chapter (Captain Square notwithstanding), but it’s easy. Just blast OD-10 with Cube’s Maser Cannon a few times and its systems will be fried.
