When does May Day 2021 Start in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Sometimes I wonder if society’s a little too eager to create holidays. I mean, I love holidays as much as the next guy, don’t get wrong, but when every day’s a holiday, they kinda start to lose their magic, y’know? Well, maybe if more holidays came with something to actually do like Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ May Day, I’d be more into the idea. Speaking of, when does May Day 2021 start in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Last year, May Day was a celebration of… well, nothing in particular, really. It was a celebration of the fact that it was May. Bit of a flimsy justification for a holiday, but hey, it came with a free weekend activity, and I know for a fact we all had nothing better to do last year. The May Day maze has returned once again this year, hosted again by Animal Crossing’s most ephemeral of mascots, Rover. So, when do the festivities start? Good news: they already have!

When does May Day 2021 Start in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

The May Day event just began today, April 29th, arriving with yesterday’s update, and it will run until Friday, May 7th. To take part in the festivities, swing by your island’s airport to talk to Orville. He’ll let you know that Tom Nook has sent along a free May Day ticket that you can redeem with him at your leisure.

When you redeem your ticket, you’ll be whisked away to the May Day maze island, where a new maze will be waiting for you to solve. Just like last year, you’ll need to leave your inventory behind with Wilbur to make sure you don’t cheat. Though, on that subject, the new maze is only available to those that completed last year’s maze. If you haven’t beaten last year’s maze, or bought the game after May 7th, 2020, you’ll have to do that one first.

As for the maze itself, it’s not too hard to logic out, though more than just solving it, you’ll want to try and get the numerous Bell vouchers scattered around. Any Bell vouchers you pick up will be forwarded to your mailbox upon your return home, so don’t worry about inventory space. When you get to the end, have a chat with Rover to get a nifty prize for your house.
