What Legendaries are on the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Box?

Which will you choose?

In today’s Pokemon Scarlet & Violet trailer, we caught glimpses of two new legendary ‘mons. It’s not anything new for the series. In fact, most mainline series entries debut a legendary or two, and they usually tie-in to the game’s themes. For example, Ruby and Sapphire on the Game Boy Advance featured legendaries Groudon and Kyogre on the box, and this tradition has continued as recently as Sword and Shield, which featured legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet will introduce Koraidon and Miraidon, respectively. Both legendaries are serpentine in nature, but Koraidon has a reddish hue and large, multi-colored feathers atop its head and along its backside. Miraidon, on the other hand, has a bluish hue and boasts a pair of large, clear lightning-bolt crystals atop its head.

Both ‘mons feature protruded chests, with Koraidon’s somewhat resembling a spiked tire and Miraidon’s seeming more smooth to match its crystal headdress. In addition, Koraidon looks to be bipedal, while Miraidon has the ability to float. As of writing, neither Koraidon nor Miraidon’s type have been made public, but according to the official website, “these two Pokémon are said to have powers that far surpass those of other Pokémon,” but specifics are being kept secret.

Koraidon and Miradon’s names might also tease themes covered by Scarlet & Violet’s scenario. In Japanese (romaji, to be precise), “korai” and “mirai” mean “ancient” and “future,” respectively. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet will release for the Nintendo Switch simultaneously worldwide on November 18, 2022.
