If there’s one game that manages to scare even the most hardened horror gaming veterans, it is most definitely Kinetic Games’ own, Phasmophobia. A game that’s both parts survival horror and job simulator, it tasks players with searching haunted locations, finding clues using their ghost-hunting equipment until they’ve discovered what kind of ghost they’re dealing with.

One of the clues that players can find that could sway judgment on what kind of spirit haunts the location at any given time is a change in temperature, more specifically, freezing temps. While it may sound easy to figure out what freezing temps are in-game, it’s not so simple.

Luckily, we’ve got the know-how when it comes to that sort of thing, so we can explain what is really to be considered freezing temps so that you can better determine which spirit you’re dealing with.

What is Considered Freezing Temps in Phasmophobia?

Freezing temps in Phasmophobia will be the same as in real life – below 0°C or 32°F. The main reason why you need to know this information in this horror game is because it can help you identify which ghost you’re dealing with as not all of them drop the temperature to freezing (although all will cause some drop in temperature).

When it comes to taking the temperature of the environment, what you’ll need to do is grab a Thermometer from the truck, and bring it to the specific room you’re trying to observe.

To determine whether or not an area is freezing, turn on that Thermometer and read the room. If the room is indeed reaching freezing temps it’ll be anything under either 0 degrees Celsius or 37 degrees Fahrenheit when there are clear skies.

Does Cold Breath Signal Freezing Temp?

Even though your character will sometimes have an ice breath when in cold rooms, this isn’t a reliable way of finding out whether you’re in freezing temperatures or not. The cold breath will show anytime you’re in a room that has a temperature of at least 5-7 °C or 41-44°F.

If you think that the location that you’re investigating is reaching freezing temps, there are a few different ghosts that could be haunting that location. Here’s a full list of all the ghosts that can bring the temperatures below freezing:

  • Demon
  • Hantu
  • Jinn
  • Moroi
  • Oni
  • Onryo
  • Revenant
  • Shade
  • The Mimic
  • The Twins
  • Yurei

Admittedly, catching freezing temps can take a while and is one of the more repetitive pieces of equipment to use, so just stick to your guns on whether you should keep checking the temps or give up and call it there.
