In Madden Ultimate Team, football and collectible card games collide. It is also one of Madden’s most competitive game modes. In this mode, your objective is to collect the best player cards in order to construct the best team. Then you utilize that squad to perform tasks and compete with other players or the computer. Are the best players necessarily the greatest players in history, or could a Madden Theme Team provide you an advantage?
What’s a Team Without a Theme
Theme teams are teams comprised of players from the same, one of thirty-two NFL teams. Since you won’t have the top player at every position, your squad will fall short in certain categories. But the more members of a single squad you have, the more of a boost you get. All players that are on the same team or have similar chemistry will receive these bonuses. As you move up the ranks, your bonuses are combined. After getting your +1 str at Tier 1, you will have a total of +2 str at Tier 5.
Madden Theme Team Stat Bonuses
- Tier 1 – 5 Players = +1 STR
- Tier 2 – 10 Players = +1 JMP
- Tier 3 – 15 Players = +1 AGI
- Tier 4 – 20 Players = +1 ACC
- Tier 5 – 25 Players = +1 STR
- Tier 6 – 30 Players = +1 JMP
- Tier 7 – 35 Players = +1 AGI
- Tier 8 – 40 Players = +1 SPD
- Tier 9 – 45 Players = +1 ACC
- Tier 10 – 50 Players = +1 SPD
The Success is in the Cards
In a game mode that includes the possibility of a collectible card game, you may not have all of the players required for a full Madden Theme Team. There are systems in place to assist in these instances. Certain players can choose teams for which they played one snap during the regular season. While team captains can equip all 32 teams, and divisional champions can equip team chemistry from any team in the division or any team for which they have previously played.

Coaches and stadiums have had an impact on team chemistry in prior Madden versions. Only starters, backups, kickers, and punters will bring chemistry to your team theme in Madden 23. Another update is that team affinity items that boost team chemistry may now be acquired in the auction house. Each team has three tiers of strategy items, with you wanting to equip the best available at the time. Another new element is the legend theme team, which is made up of players that have the legend team chemistry. These players will also receive a bonus, excluding the final two tiers. With these upgrades, you won’t have to worry about being without some of the top players. You could get the boost you need by adding some Madden theme team members to your squad.
