What Happened in Hi-Fi Rush’s Ending? Explained.

Perfectly Peaceful

Hi-Fi Rush is currently making tidal waves in the AA gaming scene. In addition to its unique and, dare I say revolutionary twist on a familiar theme, the game is just fun to play. But, some players might be confused at how the game’s story came to a close. Especially since the post-game content is so rich and canonically increases the story’s runtime. So, let’s talk about what happened at the end of Hi-Fi Rush!

What Happened in Hi-Fi Rush’s Ending?

Incidentally, the ending of Hi-Fi Rush doesn’t leave much to the imagination. To be frank, any confusion is likely a result of the game not truly ending once the credits have rolled. We live in a world where so many games are shipped incomplete that when a game is shipped complete … how should we react?! But, in any case, here’s what happens after the final boss fight against Kale Vandelay has been completed.

As the dust clears, Kale’s fate (like all of the bosses) is left ambiguous. Peppermint rushes to the SPECTRA control module to input all the password keys we’ve earned to this point. As she inputs Korsica’s key, the system begins to overload! But, thankfully, it shuts off — hopefully for good this time. Macaron wraps Chai in a big hug as it’s revealed that CNMN not only survived his heroic last stand, but still has his iconic sense of humor. Everyone is able to take a much needed breather after the stressful last fight.

Reuniting and Reconciling

The team meets with Roxanne Vandelay, who, until now was being mind controlled by Kale and SPECTRA. Korsica conveys her regret that she fell for Kale’s ploy and says she’d like to work for the real Vandelay if Roxanne is open to the idea. Of course, the leader is more than willing to accept Korsica. Macaron is able to reunite with Roxanne after all these years, and he’s returned to his position as head of development. There’s a particularly funny and adorable scene between Roxanne and CNMN, as well.

Next, it’s Peppermint’s turn to reunite and reconcile with her mother, Roxanne. The latter fully accepts the former for who she is, and then the industry head’s attention shifts to our hero, Chai. Chai expresses doubt that he’d be able to do anything useful for Vandelay, but Roxanne stops him in his tracks. She offers Chai the chance to become an ambassador for Project Armstrong, or, in her words … a rockstar.

In the Credits

In the credits, we’re able to see where each of the characters is in the post-game. Roxanne is once again at the head of Vandelay, with a new company tagline: Return Back to a Better Life. Peppermint is fixing up the old Vandelay truck we saw in the museum. Korsica is once again at her rightful place as head of security, looking more content than we’ve ever seen her.

Macaron is delivering on his promise to repair CNMN, who gives a thumbs up to the camera. Bringing it all together, Macaron and CNMN are driving the — now repaired — Vandelay truck, with Peppermint kicking back in the cargo bed. They stop to pick up Korsica, and one of the absolute cutest moments happens when the security head gives a wink to Peppermint, who blushes as a result.

All that’s left is Chai and 808, who are relaxing atop a building overlooking the Vandelay campus. Peppermint takes over 808 and tells Chai something — probably along the lines of ‘we’re here, come on out’ and he takes off running and grappling throughout the island. He lands in the cargo bed of the truck, suffers some hair tussling from Peppermint, and then the truck takes off.

When next we see our heroes, they’re relaxing atop a hill at sunset. Peppermint comments on Chai picking up the guitar, and Chai replies that he needs a backup plan in case the job with Vandelay doesn’t pan out. And that’s where the story ends.

Will There Be a Hi-Fi Rush 2?

At present, nothing is confirmed but if you were to ask this writer’s opinion, I don’t think there needs to be. It ends perfectly in my opinion. And, to put these characters into more stress would be a disservice to the characters and world. If they were to make a sequel, I would want a completely original cast. But, in any case, we probably won’t know for sure for a while.
