Crafting might not be explained in the best way, but man is it useful

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a plethora of secret items, routes, and weapons for players to find. Not only find, but thanks to the crafting system in the game, finding the right items can combine to make fantastic things. However, with most things in Baldur’s Gate, the game isn’t going to tell you what goes with what. And in the early hours of the game, you’ll need to get your bearing before jumping head first in the rest of the story. Therefore, we’re going to head underground and answer the question: what do you do with Icy Crystal, Icy Metal, and Icy Helve in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)?

Each one of these items can be found throughout the Underdark, an area players will encounter towards the end of act 1. You won’t need to take them anywhere once you’ve found them, just make sure you don’t sell/discard them. The metal is found in the Myconid colony, the helve dropped by a Drow next to the Spectator near the Underdark Fort, and the crystal is dropped by Filro the Forgotten. Since these locations are scattered around the Underdark, you’ll need to collect all three of them before being able to use them

After you’ve done so, go to your crafting menu, and place all three items in any of the slots. Select ‘combine’ and you’ll have successfully crafted the Mourning Frost quarterstaff. It’s a fairly decent very rare magic weapon that can be extremely useful early on in BG3. Due to the nature of weapons, you might not be proficient with the versatile weapon. And if you don’t have any party members who can use it, it’ll fetch a decent price to a trader.
