What Deck Building Restrictions Are There in Midnight Suns?

Sadly, you can't just stack up on Heroic abilities and flatten the world.

One of the most impending questions when it comes to new games with deck builders involves the idea of restrictions. In Midnight Suns, players will upgrade and collect tons of new cards for each character and will want to use the best ones possible. Unfortunately, doing so would throw the game into a state of disarray. As you trounce each and every mission and enemy the game throws at you, players will miss out on key features used to flesh out the games mechanics. Firaxis Games decided to obviously add some restrictions to which cards are allowed to be used in one deck. We are swinging by to answer the question: what deck building restrictions are there in Midnight Suns?

Marvel’s Midnight Suns requires the player to have a total of 8 ability cards equipped to a hero in order to use them in battle. Furthermore, players must have at least 1 Attack, Skill, and Heroic card in a heroes deck. Simply put, Attacks are your main source of damage, Skills on the other hand provides certain buffs or de-buffs to the player or enemies around the player respectively. Heroics are a bombshell combination of the two more common cards, providing big damage as well as a buff or debuff against enemies to go along with it.

The game provides certain restrictions by only allowing 4 total cards with the same type to be used in a deck. Sometimes the player will have duplicates of the same ability card and will want to put as many of them in their deck as they can. However, the game will only allow the player to use 2 of the exact same card in a deck. By progressing further in the game, players can also unlock legendary abilities that are super powerful compared to other normal cards. With these, only 1 legendary ability can be used in a deck. The game will also provide it’s own restrictions based on certain challenges on different missions. These could require you to mix up your deck build and figure out which cards will work for the challenges.

Midnight Suns aims to allow the players to build and create their own decks in order to play in their own way. The restrictions that are in place feel as if they don’t compromise that idea while making sure their game mechanics are on full display. More characters have already been announced to join the roster currently in place at the time of release. So it will be interesting to see new additions to the character and card base, and how they impact the game in their own ways.
