Once players start to progress past the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3, a lot of your companion missions start to develop. Case and point, during act 2 Shadowheart can come face to face with her destiny in the form of the Nightsong. A name that you’ll hear from a plethora of people, wanting them dead, or wanting to pay someone to make them dead. This side quest can be obtained in act 1or act 2 depending on how you go about things. But for everyone who takes on this arduous task, finding her won’t be easy much less killing her. This will require players to find a special spear, one that is locked behind a series of riddles. So let’s roll for initiation and figure out the answer to what can silence the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3?
What can Silence the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3? (BG3) Explained
Towards the end of the questline “Find the Nightsong”, players will be tested through the Trials of Shar. And after completing the first three trials, you’ll come across an Umbral Tremor located in the middle of a room called The Silent Library. In here is where players will find, amongst other things, the riddle for silencing the Nightsong. Once the enemies in this room have been sent to the corporeal realm, players should take note of all the bookcases around the room. Beware, as these shelves are actually booby-trapped.

Disarm the bookcase trap in the southeast of The Silent Library, and you can grab the Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger book. From there, players should search around the bookcases in order to find 4 buttons. By pressing them, you’ll unlock the giant metal gate, allowing you to traverse through it. Located past it, is an altar of some sort with the words: Riddle of the Night.
If you decide to read the book you grabbed in the previous room, it tells you the only way to silence the Nightsong is her other half the Nightsinger, otherwise known as Shar. The very same Shar that sent Shadowheart on their suicide mission prior to the events of BG3. Place the book on the altar, and the path forward will open, allowing you to loot a helmet and half-plate, along with the most important thing, the Spear of Night. Giving whoever wields it Shar’s Blessing, allowing them to take down the Nightsong. Now we’ll see what choices you end up making.
