The Sims Mobile vs. The Sims Freeplay Explained

Two games, one guide.

The Sims has always been one of EA’s most popular franchises since its inception in 2000. The series is so popular that it has spawned sequels and several spin-offs. Two of the currently active spin-offs are The Sims Mobile and The Sims Freeplay. Both are mobile games with a lot of similarities and differences. In this guide, we’ll explain the differences between both games.

The Sims Mobile vs. The Sims Freeplay Explained

The Sims Mobile was released in 2018 while The Sims Freeplay was first released in 2011 for iOS before making its way to other platforms. Freeplay was originally designed to be a mobile version of The Sims 3 as that was the most recent game at the time. Mobile is basically a mobile version of The Sims 4 as this is the most recent Sims game until The Sims 5 is released.

One difference between the two games is how Sims perform actions. In Freeplay, everything happens in real-time meaning if it takes your Sim 1 minute to clean up a spill, it will actually take that long for them to clean it up. Mobile is a bit more fast-paced in this sense as it does not take as long for Sims to do tasks.

In some ways, Mobile seems to be an improved version of Freeplay as it has a much more detailed character creator, faster gameplay, and better graphics. Freeplay is an older game and may lack in some areas but it does contain much more content since it’s been out since 2011. Almost every month since February 2012, there has been a content update for the game.

When it comes to monetization, Freeplay does a better job than Mobile. Simoleans, one of the game’s currencies can be earned by watching ads, sending your sims to their job, gardening, and many other ways. The game’s life points can easily be earned using the cooking hobby. In Mobile, it’s harder to grind for its own currency known as simcash. You get some from doing quests and only one if you watch ads making the grind to earn it very long.
