The DioField Chronicle: How To Play As Fredret

Fredret might be the most versatile unit in The Diofield Chronicle, serving as a tank, damage dealer, and disruptor all at once.

The DioField Chronicle is Square Enix’s latest foray into the world of strategy RPGs, but this time they’ve added a little twist. Instead of turn-based combat, you’ll control your units in real-time as they fight their way across a variety of diorama-style battlefields. One of these units, Fredret, is both a core member of the game’s story and a whiz at controlling enemy positions during battles. He’s a vital part of the team, and it’s important to know how to use him properly.

How To Play As Fredret

Fredret is a Cavalier unit, which means he spends his entire time in battle on horseback. His horse is just as much a part of his unit as he is, factoring into his movement speed and several of his skills. This makes him a powerful vanguard unit that can rush enemies, keeping them on the back foot while the rest of the party takes up advantageous positions.

Fredret has a range of skills that enable him to control the flow of battle, shifting enemy positions and lining them up for devastating follow-up attacks. Horse Kick is a great skill for grabbing distant sharpshooters and dragging them into the middle of the battlefield where someone like Andrias can pick them off. Vicious Strike is excellent for grouping enemies together so units like Iscarion or Waltaquin can hit them with area-of-effect attacks. And Mounted Charge can push enemies right into traps like Rickenback’s Trap Caster skill or explosive barrels.

Fredret’s abilities also make him a decent damage dealer, and his massive health pool allows him to function as a de facto tank. Balancing his abilities is key to maximizing his damage output, and many of them are tied to his health. Unlock Calm and Collected, Strong Constitution, and Physical Protection to give Fredret a hefty attack power boost and ensure that his health remains full for the entire battle.

To really get the most out of Fredret, keep a healer nearby at all times. This will not only ensure he stays healthy, but it also gives him someone to juggle enemies with should you decide to split your party up. It’s also worth investing Skill Points into the Cavalier tree early on, as Fredret doesn’t have a particularly large energy point pool to draw from.
