Summoning Rage Spirit Necromancer Build – Path of Exile (PoE)

Call those raging skulls to come to your aid.

Necromancers in Path of Exile are powerful sorcerers that draw their strength from summoning a lot of minions to fight on their behalf. Although there are more than a few ways you can approach the minion build for Necromancer, in this article we will be looking into the Summoning Raging Spirit (SRS) type of build and how to best use it against your enemies. When compared to other minions, Raging Spirits can look weak because they last for a short time, but when put in a strong build, they will absolutely dominate the battlefield.

Raging Spirit Necromancer Basics

The Summoning Raging Spirit build in Path of Exile will revolve around two important things. Buffing your minions’ attack and our Necromancer’s HP and Resistance. The first thing is necessary because they will be your main damage output since you won’t be relying on your hero’s attacks. The HP and Resistance buildup is vital because you need to keep your Necromancer alive and prevent him from getting nuked easily.

In short, the advantages of this build are that it’s a good starter, meaning you can form SRS build from level 8 and can easily gear for it. Wand and Helmet are the only things where you would need to spend the extra coin, but getting other pieces of equipment will be fairly cheap. Just make sure you stack up on Life and Resistance bonuses from most of your items, get a shield that recovers life on the block, and a wand that will buff up your spell skill gems. Furthermore, Raging Spirits excel at fighting Bosses and they generally offer a unique playstyle that is pretty fun.

Raging Spirit Build

Raging Spirits last shorter than some other summons so in your passive skill tree, you should pick nodes that increase their duration. Even then, you should adapt to the playstyle where you will constantly need to spawn them so never let your guard down. Moreover, unlike Zombies and Stone Golems that distract your enemies, take aggro, and even buff you, Raging Spirits will soak AoE spells but aren’t directly targetable by the enemies. This puts your Necromancer on the line so be extra careful.

The core of the SRS build is the gems that you socket into your gear. First and foremost you will need the Summon Raging Spirit gem, supported by Minion Damage Support and Melee Splash Support support gems. This combo doesn’t only buff the damage of your Spirits but allows them to damage enemies in an area, thus helping you kill a lot of them at once. If you are fighting a tough boss and have trouble killing him, replace the splash gem temporarily with some other damage-increasing gem like Added Fire Damage Support.
