Should you buy the Character Boost in Destiny 2? It’ll save you time, right? I mean, level boosts aren’t a new concept to MMOs, so it’s only natural that Bungie would add them to Destiny. They’re certainly not for everybody, though – which I why I’m going to run through the pros and cons of buying one.
Whether or not you should buy the Character Boost in Destiny 2 depends on your situation. If you’re a millionaire – go nuts (and gift me some Silver for my services). For the other 99.999% percent of you out there, you’ll have to way up the cost of the boosts with what they offer. That’s exactly what I’m doing here.
Destiny 2 – Should You Buy the Character Boost?
Destiny 2 – What is the Character Boost?
Before we talk about whether or not it’s worth the money, you’ll want to know the actual specifics of what the Destiny 2 Character Boost does.
The idea of the boost is that it gives you a way to skip the soft power cap grind on two of your alternative characters. It does this by dropping gear into your inventory to bring you up to that cap. This comes with some terms and conditions:
- This does not skip a campaign. While you will get boosted immediately to whatever the soft cap is for your current season, buying the Destiny 2 Character Boost will not skip a campaign – so you’ll still need to play through missions on your alts regardless (not including Lightfall).
- You must already have a character at the soft cap. To be eligible for the boost, one of your three characters must already be at the soft-cap Power Level.
- The boost is activated immediately. Upon purchase, you’ll automatically receive your new gear in your character’s inventory. If your inventory is full, this gear will be pushed to the Post Master.
There are a few other details – but those are the important ones. It essentially boils down to this – the Destiny 2 Character Boost is just a set of soft-cap armor and weapons.

Destiny 2 – Is the Character Boost Pack Worth It? – Pros and Cons
So, now that you know what you’re getting, let’s talk about whether or not it’s actually worth the money.
The Character Boost pack costs around $20. For that $20 you get one set of armor and one set of weapons – none of which are any good. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons before committing to a decision, though.
Pros:
- Instantly lets you level up to the soft cap on two characters – decreasing the amount of time you have to spend grinding.
Cons:
- It costs $20 per character.
- All it gives you is a set of soft-cap leveled gear.
- You already have to be at the soft cap on one character.
If the Character Boosts were $10, then I could actually see the value in them for some of the more hardcore players. I might even consider them myself. For $20, though – well, there’s no world in which I would actually buy this.
You’re spending $20 to skip a day’s worth of gameplay – for content you’ll still have to play anyway since the boosts don’t let you skip most of the campaigns.
On top of that, completing the Lightfall campaign on Legendary will also award you a set of soft cap gear. It’s not easy, sure, but you could do it in a day. You’ll be saving $20 in the process, so use that as motivation.
That being said, the boost will skip the Lightfall campaign – but nothing else, so you’ve still got a long to-do list either way.
