Ruin DLC Confirms Canon Ending for FNAF: Security Breach With Three Important Details

The fate of Security Breach sealed

With every new entry into the FNAF timeline for fans to read, view, play and consume, there is always questions being asked about its lore. This animatronic-al nightmare is nowhere near its end and its story continues to get more and more complex by the minute. But the inclusion of the Ruin DLC is put in place to clear up much needed questions regarding the new Vanny, the questions of immortality for William Afton and the possible nefarious participation of Mrs. Afton. So what does Ruin reveal about Security Breach and does it clear up anything we needed clearing up? Well, three very important details have been highlighted in the DLC which confirm the actual canon ending for FNAF: Security Breach. This is Vincent’s take on it.

What is the Canon Ending in FNAF: Security Breach?

FNAF is known for having endings that are rather ambiguous in specifying whether what you have achieved is in fact the best possible ending, canon or just terrible for all alive parties involved. With a total of 6 endings to get in FNAF: Security Breach, it is unsurprising that many have assumed the canon ending to be the one where Glamrock Freddy and Gregory escape the Pizzaplex alive and fully intact. But when playing through the Ruin DLC which takes place after the destruction that little Gregory caused, the reveal of the damage and the path that Cassie is forced to take actually tells us that the canon ending is not what we originally assumed. Instead, the ending confirmed canon by Ruin is the one where Vanny is unmasked, revealing Vanessa and she is saved from its grasp.

Whilst this was deemed to be the best ending that Security Breach offered, the result of Freddy losing his body but would remain conscious and sentient via his head alone, which Gregory would take with him in his escape had fans such as myself assuming that this could not be cannot. BUT Ruin confirms that this ending is indeed canon by three distinct details included in the DLC.

Clue 1: Using V.A.N.N.I Mask Throughout the Ruin DLC

The first clue that should immediately send alarm bells to players is the Vanny mask being inside the Pizzaplex. This is a primary gameplay mechanic used throughout the Ruin DLC and is there on purpose to create the new “antagonist” of the M.X.E.S security system that has a similar appearance to the Vanny bunny. But as we all know, there is only one Vanny mask in existence. Whilst it is stated by Helpy, the AI system in place to guide Cassie through her journey whilst using the mask, that the mask is equipment used by members of staff in the Pizzaplex, we never saw this being used by anyone other than Vanessa. It is important to note that there is no other Vanny mask in FNAF and because of this, its presence in the Pizzaplex and being offered to Cassie implies that Vanessa is no longer confined to its manipulative grasp.

If Vanessa dropped the mask, this would indicate that she was freed from Glitchtrap (VR: Help Wanted) and could no longer be used to lure in children to the Pizzaplex. Because the Vanny mask is in Ruin DLC, it confirms that Vanessa made it out of the Pizzaplex alive, hinting that the canon ending is the one where she was saved by Gregory and Freddy.

Clue 2: Finding Glamrock Freddy’s Headless Body

Next, players can actually stumble upon Freddy’s headless Glamrock suit which also confirms that the ending where Vanessa is freed is indeed the canon ending. We know that in this ending Freddy is attacked by S.T.A.F.F bots who rip him apart. The only thing that remains intact is Freddy’s severed head which Gregory takes with him. By finding his body which has been mangled by the beating he took form the bots and more importantly, headless, it tells us that Freddy’s head can be found elsewhere. His behavior is that of the other animatronics who were manipulated by the virus and acted on behalf of it. It is seen when Burntrap is revealed that it had some kind of connection to Freddy and the others where it tried to control him through technology.

Clue 3: The Comic Strip Endings

The final clue, although it is not really needed at this point is the comic strips that can be found. These show all endings in Security Breach aside from the one where Vanessa, Gregory and Freddy escape. What this says is that in his dreams, he imagined all other endings coming true and haunting him or perhaps being a façade created by Mimic to keep Gregory trapped inside his cell within the Pizzaplex. The missing comic strip is in fact what played out in Security Breach, being the best ending possible where Vanessa is revealed, saved and Freddy escapes with only his head intact.

These three details included in the Ruin DLC do confirm that the canon ending for FNAF: Security Breach was in fact the one where Princess Quest must be beaten to free Vanessa from Glitchtrap.
