Rocket League Sideswipe Shot Types and How to Do Them

Rocket League Sideswipe Shot Types and How to Do Them

A guide on how to do red, purple, and gold shots in Rocket League Sideswipe.

Rocket League Sideswipe is the mobile version of the world’s most popular RC car soccer game. It has risen to be one of the respectable competitive scenes in esports throughout the last couple of years. That said, the mobile version of Rocket League has a lot of promise, and Psyonix did a great job translating the game to 2D. Some of the mechanics are a bit different, though, which is why we want to put together this guide.

Below, we will look at the three different shot types in Rocket League Sideswipe and how to do them. Specifically, we’ll be looking at the power shot (red), the underside shot (purple), and the backward shot (gold). These are not easy maneuvers to pull off, but you can incorporate them into your skillset with enough practice.

Rocket League Sideswipe Shot Types

There are three different types of shots designated by colors in Rocket League Sideswipe:

  1. Red Shot: Power Shot
  2. Purple Shot: Underside Shot
  3. Gold Shot: Backwards Shot

How to do the Red Shot in Rocket League Sideswipe

To do the Red Shot in Rocket League Sideswipe, you need to flip into the ball and hit it with the nose of your car. The ball will illuminate red, hence why some people call it the Red Shot. Of the three colored shots, the Red Shot, or the Power Shot, is the easiest one to pull off. It’s also a good one to add to your bag of tricks.

To use the Red Shot effectively, you can consider staying with the ball and flipping into it when the opportunity presents itself. Seeing as how there is no time limit on when you can do your flip after jumping (traditional Rocket League has a 1.5-second limit), you can use this maneuver to launch the ball into the goal at any time you want. You will need to master your vehicle control to take full advantage of this one.

How to do the Purple Shot in Rocket League Sideswipe

To do the Purple Shot in Rocket League Sideswipe, you will need to aim the underside of your car at the ball and jump without holding a direction. The ball then picks up momentum and glows purple, hence the name. Remember not to hold any specific direction when attempting this, or you will just flip your car away from the ball and miss it entirely.

If you do this shot in midair, your car will accel back towards the ground. It’s a good finisher to score a goal or take a shot and quickly get back in position to defend or go for another shot. However, it’s also a great defensive move to get the ball out of your side of the field.

How to do the Gold Shot in Rocket League Sideswipe

To do the Gold Shot in Rocket League, aim your car away from the ball and flip away from it. It’s more practical to flip your car upside down while going toward the ball and then flip away from it when you come in contact with it. The ball will then pick up momentum and glow a gold color.

Out of the three shots, it’s the most difficult to pull off and probably has the least number of use cases. One thing to note is that this seems to be the most powerful shot out of the three (slightly), but again, it’s not an easy one to use in a live match.

You can practice all three shots in Rocket League Sideswipe’s Freeplay mode.
