Pros and Cons of Each House in Hogwarts Legacy – House Guide

The Sorting Hat ain't picky.

The four houses of Hogwarts are one of the most popular, enduring elements of the Wizarding World. You can’t even have a conversation about the Wizarding World without discussing everyone’s potential house assignments. The houses are an element in Hogwarts Legacy as well, but how much do they actually factor into your story experience? Here’s a guide on the differences between the houses in Hogwarts Legacy.

Pros and Cons of Each House in Hogwarts Legacy – House Guide

Following your enrollment in Hogwarts near the beginning of the game, you’ll undergo the Sorting Hat Ceremony, wherein the titular magical hat will read your character’s personality and place them in one of the four houses. Where you end up is ultimately up to you; you can answer honestly and take whatever the hat gives you, or just pick a house manually after the fact.

Presumably, as part of an effort on the developers’ part to keep the game experience accessible and open-ended, the house that you end up in in Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t actually have any practical bearing on your overall adventure. The only real differences are aesthetics, including the color of the robes you wear, the location of your common room, and the NPCs that hang around you.

Hogwarts House Differences

The four houses have their own signature colors, which you’ll be wearing predominantly on Hogwarts grounds. If you have a color preference, you’d best stick to the house that represents it.

  • Gryffindor: Red
  • Ravenclaw: Blue
  • Hufflepuff: Yellow
  • Slytherin: Green

Speaking of the houses, each house has a common room located somewhere in the school, where you can explore and mingle with your classmates. The Gryffindor and Ravenclaw common rooms are located in those houses’ designated towers, the Hufflepuff common room is near the school’s kitchens, and the Slytherin common room is down in the dungeon. You’ll swiftly get access to the game’s fast travel system, so the physical locations of these rooms don’t actually matter much.

If you enjoy chatting with NPCs, you should pick a house that represents a value you agree with. Gryffindor is all about bravery, Ravenclaw has the smart kids, Hufflepuff kids are loyal and friendly, and Slytherin has the cunning, ambitious folks. The NPC students you talk with in the common rooms will exemplify these values, and if you find a particular value annoying, you may want to steer clear.

In the grand scheme of things, though, there aren’t any major pros or cons to any of the houses. Just pick whichever one you find most attractive. It’s your journey in the Wizarding World, after all.
