Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Treasures of Ruin Types and Moves

Keep destructive deities as your pets!

Every mainline Pokemon game usually has a gaggle of Legendaries for you to catch outside of the mascot Legendaries, usually in a themed group. For Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, that group is the Treasures of Ruin, a quartet of Pokemon said to have brought doom and destruction to the world. Fun, let’s catch ’em! Here are the types and moves of the Treasures of Ruin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

The Treasures of Ruin are made up of four high-level Legendary Pokemon. Each of them is sealed away in a different shrine located somewhere in Paldea, with each shrine being locked by eight mysterious black stakes placed nearby. You can tell which stakes go to which shrines because they’re color-coded in purple, yellow, green, or blue.

The members of the Treasures of Ruin can be found by unsealing the shrines in the following locations:

  • Ting-Lu: Groundblight Shrine, Caseroya Lake, Green Stakes
  • Chien-Pao: Icerend Shrine, West Province Area One, Yellow Stakes
  • Wo-Chien: Grasswither Shrine, South Province Area Five, Purple Stakes
  • Chi-Yu: Firescourge Shrine, North Province Area One, Blue Stakes

Once you pull out all of a shrine’s black stakes, you’ll get a notification that the shrine has opened. When you interact with the shrine in question, the Pokemon will jump out and attack immediately, so make sure you’re prepared with ideal type matchups, lots of Poke Balls, and a manual save beforehand.

Here are the types of each member of the Treasures of Ruin, as well as the moves they’ll use:

  • Ting-Lu: Dark/Ground
    • Rock Slide (Rock)
    • Memento (Dark)
    • Earthquake (Ground)
    • Fissure (Ground)
  • Chien-Pao: Dark/Ice
    • Sacred Sword (Fighting)
    • Recover (Normal)
    • Throat Chop (Dark)
    • Sheer Cold (Ice)
  • Wo-Chien: Dark/Grass
    • Power Whip (Grass)
    • Grassy Terrain (Grass)
    • Knock Off (Dark)
    • Leaf Storm (Grass)
  • Chi-Yu: Dark/Fire
    • Swagger (Normal)
    • Inferno (Fire)
    • Memento (Dark)
    • Overheat (Fire)

While they won’t use it during their fight with you, it’s worth knowing that every member of the Treasures of Ruin can learn the same signature move, Ruination, a Dark-type move that cuts the opponent’s HP in half if it hits. Consider it an incentive to train them up.

In the event you accidentally knock one of the Treasures out while trying to catch it, don’t worry, they’re not gone forever. Just wait ten minutes and restart the game, and they’ll return to their shrine. They won’t respawn after you’ve caught them, though.
