Monster Roadtrip: Prank Master Mode, Explained

Let's make this roadtrip a little more interesting.

I don’t think it’s physically possible for a bunch of people to sit in a car for a long roadtrip with annoying one another. It just kind of happens on its own after a while. If it’s going to happen no matter what, you might as well skip the preamble and make a cutthroat road game out of it. Here’s an explanation of Prank Master mode in Monster Roadtrip.

Monster Roadtrip: Prank Master Mode, Explained

After you successfully complete one run of Monster Roadtrip by safely reaching a destination, you’ll unlock the game’s alternate mode, Prank Master mode. This mode is primarily intended to make multiplayer games a little more interesting; you can use it when playing by yourself, but there isn’t really any reason to.

Named after Scott and Polly’s Prank Masterz duo, Prank Master mode encourages players to undergo Prank Dares in order to earn Prank Dollarz (with a Z, of course). Prank Dollarz are a mostly-useless currency cooked up by Polly to incentivize you to actually complete your dares.

Fun Money: Like Regular Money, but More Fun!

Here’s how it works: when you first start the game, every participating player needs to choose from a randomized assortment of Prank Dares. These can include things like obtaining/trading away a particular resource at Noodles’ stand, ensuring a particular resource is lower/higher than all others, or making certain choices on the road or at a rest stop. Each Dare pays out a different amount of Prank Dollarz upon completion.

When you visit a rest stop after four travel events, your current Dares will resolve, if possible. Any Dare for any player whose conditions have been fulfilled will pay out their Prank Dollarz, and everyone gets to choose another Dare. Most Dares don’t expire and can be fulfilled at any time, though a select few of them can expire if not fulfilled in a week’s team. There’s no punishment for unfulfilled dares beyond not getting Prank Dollarz.

So what can you actually do with Prank Dollarz? Normally, at the rest stop, each option aside from the Car can only accommodate one player at a time. If a player takes up a rest stop option that you want, you can bid your Prank Dollarz to kick them out of it. Of course, both they and other players can bid more Prank Dollarz to kick you out as well, so if there’s an option everyone wants, either for resources or to fulfill their Dares, get ready to fight for it.

Prank Master mode doesn’t affect the general gameplay loop or the ultimate goal of reaching destinations, it’s just an amusing way to make your multiplayer matches a bit more… cutthroat. And it ain’t a roadtrip game until everyone is at each other’s throats.
