How to Start and Complete Plotlines in Monster Roadtrip

It's not all about the random shenanigans.

In Monster Roadtrip, the majority of shenanigans you and your friends/crushes get up to are generally disconnected. You can’t be held accountable for your silly, young-hearted actions, after all. However, on occasion, you can stumble butt-backwards into something resembling a coherent plot. Here’s how to start and complete plotlines in Monster Roadtrip.

How to Start and Complete Plotlines in Monster Roadtrip

Plotlines are, well, plotlines! Specifically, they’re little self-contained stories that you can encounter while out on the road in Monster Roadtrip. If you’ve played the previous Monster Prom games, the concept of these will seem familiar, though they also have their own distinct quirks as well.

First and foremost, in order to trigger a plotline, you need to reach a certain threshold of a particular resource. Generally, that threshold is a few points below the amount of that resource you would need to activate that respective resource’s end destination. For instance, if you had 22 Hype, that wouldn’t be enough to get to the destination, but it would trigger the plotline to start.

A Fiercely Thickening Plot

When you have enough of a resource to start a plotline, you’ll be interrupted on the road between travel locations. The helpful Narrator will inform you that you’ve passed the requirement and that a plotline is about to get underway. You can opt to skip it if you’re not interested, but if you say yes, it’ll begin.

Plotline events all occur in transit between travel locations over the course of three in-game weeks, with each event occurring on a random turn. The first two of these events work just like regular travel location events; you get a couple of choices, and the one you pick will affect your resources somehow. However, the third event plays a little rougher. The final event works more like the original Monster Prom, presenting you with a choice between two options based on two of your resources. You need to make an educated guess about which choice represents which resource, then pick the choice associated with the higher resource. Not only that, but you need to successfully make the correct choice three times in a row. If you make the wrong choice on any of these, the entire plotline fails.

If you can successfully start and complete the plotline, as well as safely make it to that resource’s associated destination, you’ll unlock a new ending layer for that destination. The characters you encountered during the plotline will appear in the ending CG, guaranteed to make it even wackier than it already was.

Remember, you need at least three weeks available to complete a plotline, so don’t finish the run too quickly if you want to see it through to the end! Trust me, it’ll be worth the effort.
