As always, batting will be one of the big parts of the game you will want to master. The best way to improve your hitting and overall game on MLB The Show 22 is simply by practicing, but a few handy tips can help you become a more efficient batter right away. Here are the best hitting tips in MLB The Show 22.

Best Hitting Tips in MLB The Show 22

There are a number of ways to improve your hitting in MLB The Show 22, but these are the top three things you can do to become a more effective batter in the game.

#1 – Alter your Hitting Settings

One of the best things you can do in MLB The Show 22 to become a more powerful and efficient hitter is by switching up your available settings. When it comes to hitting the ball, there are three different settings to choose from:

  • Timing
  • Directional
  • Zone

Timing ensures that your player will hit the ball smoothly so long as you wait for the ball to enter the strike zone and hit the ball at the right time. It is easiest to hit home runs with this timing.

Stepping it up a notch is the Directional mode, which will allow you to choose where you want to aim your bat and get more acclimated with how the process works. It’s a little bit more complex, but it’s probably the best option for those who enjoy a little more of a challenge but still want to have success hitting the ball in MLB The Show 22.

Lastly, there’s Zone, the ‘expert’ level and the one most recommended for those with experience in MLB The Show. It can take a little while to master, but it gives you the best chance to knock the ball out of the park if done correctly.

#2 – Practice the Swing Types

One of the most important rules of baseball is understanding that you don’t always need to be aiming for a home run. Sometimes just getting on base is good enough (oftentimes, best). In MLB The Show 22, there are different swing types for you to learn:

  • Normal Swing
  • Power Swing
  • Contact Swing

Normal Swing is the best if you are trying to get on base. Power Swing will give you the best chance to hit the ball as far as possible (if appropriately timed). Contact Swing is for hitting the ball short (bunt) to catch your opponent off guard and allow you to get to first base.

Understanding the difference between the three and practicing knowing when to use them is one of the best ways to improve your hitting in MLB The Show 22.

#3 – Work on Recognizing Different Pitches

One of the final things you will want to do if you’re hoping to become a more dominant hitter in MLB The Show 22 is recognizing the different pitches. When lining up at the plate, you will see any one of the following pitches:

  • Changeup – The ball comes at you straight before dipping down towards the plate. It’s usually slower than a fastball but less predictable.
  • Cutter – A straight and fast pitch that typically veers toward the pitcher’s glove side.
  • Curveball – the ball breaks down sharply towards the plate. Some pitches use a “12-6 Curve,” which breaks up and then straight down instantly.
  • Four-Seam Fastball – a straight-on fast pitch.
  • Sinker – Similar speed to a four-seam fastball, but sinks towards the end and is more difficult to hit.
  • Slider – Looks like a fastball, but breaks and sharply drifts towards the pitcher’s glove side.
  • Two-Seam Fastball – Like a four-seam fastball, but tends to lean towards the pitcher’s glove side.

Timing is essential when it comes down to mastering these different pitching styles, but understanding exactly how they differ can help you out quite a bit as you get acclimated with the game.
