Who are the commentators in MLB The Show 22?

If you’ve been following along with the MLB The Show 22, you’ve probably heard a couple of new voices in the booth lately. While it might not seem like too big a deal, introducing new commentators to a gaming franchise as popular and historic as MLB The Show is quite the gamble. Commentary brings life to the game and instantly becomes the voice synonymous with baseball.

This year, San Diego Studio decided that it was time to move on from play-by-play announcer Matt Vasgersian, who had been with the series since its inception in 2006, as well as MLB Network analysts Dan Plesac and Mark DeRosa, who had been with MLB The Show since 2017 and 2018, respectively, and replace them with a brand-new commentary duo.

In comes Joe “Boog” Sciambi and Chris Singleton.

“Boog” was an announcer for the Florida Marlins and Atlanta Braves’ radio and TV broadcasts before being named the play-by-play announcer for the Chicago Cubs in January 2021. Although, he also calls regular and postseason games for ESPN Radio and has a deep history of calling sporting events. His history dates back to when he was an undergraduate at Boston College in the early 1990s, where he worked alongside future national broadcasters Joe Tessitore and Bob Wischusen.

On the other hand, Singleton is a former MLB outfielder who played for the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, and Tampa Bay Rays from 1999 to 2005. In fact, in his rookie season with the White Sox, he not only hit for the cycle but also batted .300 along with 17 home runs and 74 RBIs.

After his MLB retirement, Singleton hopped right into the White Sox radio booth as an analyst before leaving for ESPN’s ‘Baseball Tonight’ program in 2008. In fact, he’s actually worked alongside Joe “Boog” Sciambi on ESPN Radio broadcasts since 2011, and last year started calling the Milwaukee Brewers as a part-time analyst for Bally Sports Wisconsin.

It might take some getting used to this new commentator duo and voice of MLB The Show. Still, it’s safe to say the franchise is in good hands with two dedicated and experienced individuals in the booth who have a history of working alongside each other as game analysts. For more on MLB The Show 22’s commentary, you can check out the YouTube video from Sony San Diego.
