Hades 2 is taking fans back to hell. As developer Supergiant Games’ first-ever sequel, fans of the first game may be wondering where exactly Hades’ original protagonist is. With its announcement trailer showing all things new for the IP, fans may be wondering about the whereabouts of Zagreus, and who this new protagonist is. Let’s tackle that. So is Zagreus in Hades 2?
Is Zagreus in Hades 2?
It is probably safe to assume and expect Zagreus, much like many of its supporting characters from the first game, to make cameos in Hades 2. And since completing the original game does result in Zagreus coming to terms with his own storyline revolving around his parents and falling into a new and exclusive role in dungeon crawling his way up the depths of the Underworld, his star power here met a natural and conclusive ending. It’s safe to say that his story has been concluded, but that does not mean that it will be the last that we see of him – be it in the base game or DLC. But that’s just our own hunches talking!
Meet Hades New Protagonist – Melinoe
As another Greek mythological figure, Melinoe barely has much in the way of pre-existing stories and tales behind her name as a minor figure. Just like Zagreus, this allows Supergiant Games to play around with the origin story and character arc of Melinoe, a nymph or goddess of ghosts who is often associated with Persephone. Since Supergiant Games has already confirmed that Melinoe will be a sibling or half-sibling to Zagreus in their interpretation, this will lead into a nice and natural tie into its world and turn-off point to bring in new story bits to the titles’ own lore.
It will not stop there in fact. With the new gameplay addition of fighting with Melinoe who will battle with a move-set seemingly based on and around sorcery and magic, new characters will also be helping her (or challenging her) along the way. For going by just the trailer, we get glimpses of Moros – Doom Incarnate, Apollo – God of Light, Nemesis – Retribution Incarnate and a new Shade called Dora.
