I’ll never understand why it took so long for eastern game developers and publishers to realize the viability of PC as a gaming platform. Trying to get Atlus to port Persona games was like pulling teeth, and then the moment they did, they instantly made a big stack of cash. PC gamers want the innate customization that comes with PC ports, and they’re more than willing to cough up for them. Capcom has gained a better understanding of that recently, what with their simultaneous release of Devil May Cry 5. But is Monster Hunter Rise coming to PC as well?

Back in February of this year, well before Monster Hunter Rise’s release on the Switch, Monster Hunter fans were grilling Capcom on whether or not we could expect to see a PC release of Rise. The release of Monster Hunter World on Steam was fairly successful, so it only makes sense. As it turns out, a PC release for Rise was actually on the table from the word go, but as to when we’ll actually get it, eh, it might be a little while.

Is Monster Hunter Rise Coming to PC?

Monster Hunter Rise is coming to PC sometime in early 2022, according to Capcom.

“We received a lot of requests for a PC version of Monster Hunter Rise, particularly from overseas players, and so we have decided to develop a version for PC, which we aim to release in early 2022,” the game’s producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, told IGN Japan in February. “This is still under development, so I’d like to share more detailed information when the time is right.”

That’s all the concrete information that’s currently available. There’s no official word as to why it would take this long, though the two prevailing theories are that Nintendo negotiated a timed exclusivity period for the Switch, or that Capcom would need a lot of extra development time to reoptimize the Switch version of the game to meet PC standards. Rumors suggest that Monster Hunter Rise already has framework in place for mouse and keyboard control, as well as uncapped framerates, so hopefully, the time comes for the port job, it won’t be too much harder than World was.
