Greninja is one of those few Pokemon that have achieved iconic status almost to the level of THE icon itself, Pikachu. Since becoming a mainstay on Ash’s team in the anime and one of the most beloved Starter Pokemon of Generation Six Greninja has appeared again and again in many Pokemon properties. With this level of popularity comes a demand to see Greninja in more games. So of course with the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the question is do we get Greninja?
Is Greninja in Scarlet and Violet?
Sadly, since Greninja is the final evolution of the starter Pokemon for Gen 6, Froakie, meaning it’s not currently in Scarlet and Violet. Gamefreak and the Pokemon Company rarely, if ever, add starters from other generations into the newest Gen mainline games. There’s no telling if a starter like Froakie or any other popular starters will ever be in Scarlet or Violet.
There’s lots of talk about the system Pokemon Home and its ability to transfer and store Pokemon from other games. Home’s flexibility with games like Pokemon GO, Legends Arceus, Shield and Sword, and some others gives people hope in using their favorite ‘Mons across games since the National Dex cancellation controversy in Shield and Sword took place.

The real issue is that Froakie and its evolutions are not featured in any game accessible with Home just yet. Whether we can expect Greninja to appear in a DLC or future game is up for debate. We will just have to wait and keep our fingers crossed. While Greninja might not be likely in the coming months to use in Scarlet and Violet, there is at least hope for some of our other iconic favorites.
